My Dad,
Louis S Damiani (1915 - 1981)
Louis Damiani, graduated from New York University and moved to Panama in 1941 as a steam fitter, he was very active representing the Canal Zone in Washington DC from the early 50s thru his retirement in 1973.
In a letter from then, President John F Kennedy he referred to "Louie" as an "Able man and good Friend" (even though I think he was a Republican). (I remember as a kid getting to ride the then secret under ground tram system from government building to Capital hill).
In 1972 he was awarded the
"Panama Canal Public Service Award"
and in 1973 Before my Dad's retirement as Chief Refrigeration Engineer at MT Hope, he was awarded the
"Master Key to the Panama Canal"
by then Governor David S. Parker for his role in Washington.
"Louie" known by friends, passed away in Roswell Ga, in 1981 after a short illness.
